Defenses Down

Okay…if the nervous energy I am feeling is close to what the the boys are feeling…then no wonder why they are torturing me with their attitudes and fighting! You would think I would be used to this ‘not knowing’ thing by now but it is uncomfortable not having any details around Tim’s arrival.

I spoke with him briefly this afternoon. He has been in transit for over 36 hours and is still in Kuwait waiting in a terminal, sleeping upright in a chair. There are only two phones for approximately 400 soldiers also waiting. The engine on their plane to the States ingested a bird this morning…so the flight was canceled.

It occurred to me while I was talking to him (after he had probably sat in a long line to wait for the phone) how fortunate I am that in my home I have three different phone lines (home, office, cell) at my disposal. The only problem I have is actually finding a phone because the twins steal them any chance they get.

Anyway, Tim gladly stated that his defense mechanisms were down. Prior to his departure at the base, he turned in his weapon, radios, etc. When he then arrived in Kuwait, he turned in his body armor. He said it was a good feeling, and sounded relieved. He also said that getting home requires a lot of patience.

I started feeling full of emotion as I talked to him for the brief five minutes. I haven’t really focused on his voice in a long time. There must be some psychology around during a deployment process you turn a lot of things off subconsciously. I cannot wait to see him, talk to him, hug him, watch him with the kids…

I rarely worry about Tim but please keep him in your prayers on a long journey home.

  1. Consider it done. I tell everyone I come in contact with that Tim is on his way home for an all too short leave and that he needs all of the positive energy there is out there.
    Godspeed to you Major!
