First Dance
It wasn’t the best night of sleep I had ever gotten…Emerson was crying from 2am until the morning. She couldn’t breathe well from the considerable amount of congestion she has. Then I had the pleasure of unexpectedly getting barfed on with what looked like large, undigested curds of milk. Oh…and I got a nosebleed during all of this too. But somehow everyone woke up in a great mood…and earlier than normal.
We had plenty of time to enjoy breakfast and coloring before Briggs had to catch the bus. The iPod dock immediately goes on each morning too. Before I knew it one of my favorite songs came on that Tim introduced me to…Remember When by Alan Jackson.
I asked if anyone wanted to dance with me. I cannot say I looked too inviting…I smelled of milk curd and bad breath. But Briggs looked at me sheepishly and said, “Sure.” That ’sure’ was almost like the line in Jerry Maguire, “You had me at hello.” It melted my heart.
So there on the kitchen floor I had the first real dance with my son. I wasn’t on my knees to compensate for the height difference any longer. And, I hadn’t forced him…he seemed like he wanted to.
I was so grateful at that moment to have the experience of raising a son. I also decided that when I have the opportunity to have that mother-son dance someday at his wedding…I will use up every minute of that song. And not just that swaying back-and-forth stuff that too many people do now. I see too much of that in our business. I mean a real dance. Oh! And I also decided I am going to look fabulous that night.
This is the first picture of me with my little dance partner. Neither one of us are two pretty but it sure is a monumental moment to hold your first baby for the first time.

You can’t tell from that shot, but he looked more “Hawk” than Stoner. It is amazing how grown up he has become. It has really gone by too quickly.
I hope we can hire another photographer when all the kids wed. I want to party and enjoy that dance.
Love you,

Suzy - November 8th, 2007 at 7:43 amtruly Suzy you are so totally into the real important things in life…..I mean what she has in her hair is soooo much more important than the fact that she is like so really paying attention to her kids and in the moment. I bet that she is going to have Nathan “do something” to that really gross bow/clip before it shows up on this blog again. Like she must be soooo embarrassed!!!
