The Ultimate Regift

This is too funny of a story not to share.

Tim has been trying to send the kids little gifts now and then. I imagine whatever he can find in the Exchange on base. They have received a can of Cheetos, Spiderman fruit snacks, a coloring book, a map (a very special one), stickers, etc.

So while my Aunt was visiting last week, the kids got another package. In it was included: two beach balls and American Flag window decals. I thought it was cute…my Aunt, on the other hand, was crying with laughter. I didn’t quite understand her reaction until she explained that she had sent Tim those things…hence The Ultimate Regift! On top of that…how coincidental that she would be here the day it arrived.

My Aunt is certainly known to buy very goofy things and why not beach balls in the desert! She is the one you can always count on to have some kind of singing creature on her counter each holiday. But really…how sweet and clever of Tim to send his kids anything he can get his hands on in the middle of a war.

Special thanks to…Molly and Mike Anderson…two of my best friends from high school. They came for a short but great visit with their three young children. I appreciate them making the trip. Our kids hit it off so well I caught my boys kissing their oldest girl. There is really nothing that beats the comfort of old friends. I couldn’t help but to think as they drove away how much we have seen our lives change…from high school dances and football games to Spring Break trips gone bad to college blowouts and 21st birthdays to weddings and then a house full of seven children. I feel truly blessed to have extraordinary people in my life. Mike and Molly are good ones. Thanks especially to Mike for actually wanting a project to do in the few short hours he was here. He is soooo handy…he built a plywood headboard for Briggs’ bed so that I can upholster it! Love it. Thank you.

All of the neighborhood gals for a night out on the town to celebrate the birthdays of three friends. We had a ball…especially watching Sara grace the stage at Howl at the Moon to sing ‘Crazy’ by Patsy Cline. We should consider hitting the town more often. Thanks to my mom for staying with the kids until I stumbled in!

  2. Caroline and Tiffany are right - I absolutely have to regift from the desert! Thank goodness I have Caroline providing me with a plethora of goods to select from and send home.

My premise is this; in the long run - only Briggs is old enough to remember that I was gone, and Gage misses me only in “the now.” If I provide periodic packages with fun stuff in them, the experience remains positive.

From their perspective, “my Dad was gone, but look at all the toys he sent me.”
