INCOMING…
We’ll…you simply cannot complete your combat tour - without the obligatory mortar rounds coming into your base and yesterday, we “checked that block.” It was mid-day when we received the first two rounds - just north of our position and inside the base. Then two more rounds to the south and on the perimeter.
After the impact and the “all clear” signal was complete, we centralized the personnel, got a head-count, and ensured everyone was healthy. No one was hurt and we went on with our duties.
I would guess that additional mortar rounds (called IDF or indirect fire) will continue to plague us as we move closer to Ramadan - which begins September 13th and lasts one month.
Morale remains high!

SPECIAL THANKS to: Nathan Rowe for his daily postcards, Jean Foss for her ongoing support, Erin Carr (Joel Peigh’s sister) and her mother Kathy - for the very nice care packages and letters, Judy and Wayne Pier for the card and care package, and the residents of the neighborhood for all of the care packages!
Watching old M.A.S.H. reruns is taking on a whole new meaning. Keep your head down. It’s way too pretty to be hit by incoming! Love you.
Aunt 9 - September 6th, 2007 at 12:54 pmTim,
Its been a long time since I’ve seen you at the Beta House back in Muncie, but Adam Russell sent me the link to your blog. I am a web developer who’s seen a lot of blogs and I haven’t seen a blog this real yet. It has a purpose, and that is to keep us informed about your interesting experiences and (most importantly) your well being!
I must commend you not only on a great and compelling blog, but on your service to our country. We all go through our day to day lives so often forgetting what the members of our military go through over there. This is a wonderful way to remember how important people like you are to the USA.
You have a beautiful family and I hope you return home to them safely soon. Email me your shipping address and I’ll send you some killer coffee from the green mountains of Vermont.
all the best to you.
