Budding Patriotism

I like to continuously add to my list of “Good Things”..well, somehow we collected our fair share of ‘toothpick American Flags’ around the Fourth of July. Actually, they have come in quite handy when Briggs is playing Army Men. In any case, he grew very concerned when one of the flags touched the ground. In fact, he handles them very carefully. Somewhere along the way we must have ingrained into his little mind that the American Flag can never touch the ground. While he was engrossed in Army play this morning he asked worriedly, “Is it bad if the flag is laying on the table…it isn’t the ground?”

So…I guess the good thing I am adding to the list is budding patriotism. I remember when Briggs was around three years old he would point out what he called the “super flags” when we were in the car. I have no idea where he picked that one up but somehow he was right.

Special thanks to…Ken Rood for being a man of many talents…destroying wasp hives, removing thorns from feet, and getting our air conditioner working. Melissa Rent for taking Gage for the afternoon. Sheryl and Chloe Chelovitz for taking the twins on a walk. Susan Hyten for picking up groceries.

  1. Briggszee listens well. He and I discussed not leaving the flag unattended in the elements and not letting it touch the ground - even when you are folding it.
