Purple Rain
So, I got a babysitter and went for a run once the twins were in bed tonight. Great idea! The weather was perfect. Typically, I have a playlist I use but I am growing tired of “Vogue”, “She Bangs” and “SexyBack” (by the way, don’t judge me on my taste in music…these songs all provide good beats).
Though leary, I decided to let the iPod do the work and put it on ‘Shuffe’. I was pleasantly surprised…I had forgotten what other great music was stashed in bits and bytes on this thing! When “Purple Rain” came on I was half tempted to skip past it because I thought it might be too slow. But it quickly brought me back to the dance floors in the late-80s and early-90s. Surely you have to remember swaying to this song! I was lovin’ it! I hope nobody heard me singing aloud as I passed by their porches (not a good sound). Then Hootie and the Blowfish, Lenny Kravitz, Jack Johnson, Josh Rouse, and Madonna followed. Good night for a run. What a cool invention Apple devised…that little iPod brings me such happiness.
Then, I got to thinking it really is the little things that make me happy.
So…I am adding not only the iPod to my list of ‘Good Things’ today but also the pure affection Briggs is giving me lately. For the last week or so, the kid has been hugging on me throughout the day. He kind of just hangs onto my waist for a few minutes at a time. It is really endearing. I love that he needs that right now.
If you haven’t started a list of ‘Good Things’ maybe you should. I think you will find it makes you feel grateful for what you do have. I am thinking about doing a post just on ‘Good Things’ from readers of this blog. If we all were conscious about focusing on happier things…wouldn’t we all be happier?
…
Special thanks to…Tracy and Matt Zimpfer for getting take-out the other night. Tracy for just hanging out impromptu-style. Shannon and Mike Barron for offering to watch the twins while I took the boys to a new water park in town. We had so much fun…especially on the lazy river. Norm and Eileen for doing a quick grocery store run for me. Helena for being there to always lend a hand.
We are looking forward to a great week with two almost-thirteen-year-olds. My sister, Audrey, is coming for a few days and, my cousin, Mina, is spending ten days with us. I am really looking forward to spending some quality time with her. She is going to be such an enormous help. She is well-refined from Boston so we will be introducing her to some good, old Midwest hospitality and charm!
The picture below was taken of Audrey and Mina in August 2002. An update will be coming.
