They are ONE!

It is a lucky day…07.07.07.

It is also a very special day because our girls are turning one year old! It is past midnight so I can officially wish them a happy birthday.

This birthday celebration, while very simple in nature, brings with it some emotion. First of all, Tim is absent. I feel sad for him not being able to kiss his girls on their birthday. But more importantly, it is the last first birthday we will ever celebrate. This is a milestone. We have moved on from building a family to raising a family.

I decided to get out their baby books so I could remember some of the details that are easily forgotten despite how enormous they seem at the time. The first note I turned to was “they sounded like wild cats when they were born.” Actually…it was Campbell (of course she had something loud to say). Emerson was so quiet they were concerned.

I will spare most of the details because the delivery of these two was not easy. My OB moved my c-section shortly after deciding my uterus was about to rupture. We were more than satisfied that I got to 37 weeks with twins. Once the girls were born (over 12 pounds of baby), they headed to NICU for a few days…they had a little trouble breathing…especially Emerson. I didn’t hold them or see them for 48 hours because my conditioned worsened soon after surgery. The first night I was in horrible pain and considerably sick. The next day they determined I was bleeding internally so on to surgery #2 within 24 hours. I was opened up again, over two liters of blood was removed from my abdomen and I had a transfusion. It is kind of a weird feeling to think someone else’s blood is in your body but I cannot even describe how much better I began feeling immediately.

I finally got to see the girls and name them. No longer Baby A and Baby B but Emerson Adelaide and Campbell Sinclair. They have been a complete blessing to this family. We are complete!

Once again, I feel grateful to have a photographer in the family to capture such amazing moments.
