Wild Man

I have covered both Briggs and the twins recently on the blog. I promised I would write about Gage next. By the way, this should not be an indication of his ‘middle child’ status. I just couldn’t get him to sit still for a decent picture. Special thanks to Angela Talley for taking the image above of Gage. She is not only a great friend but fabulous photographer.

Gage came to us after great (or should I say…significant) effort. Out of them all, he is the miracle baby! After numerous attempts of infertility treatments (AI, IVF, etc.) and two miscarriages, Gage arrived in October 2004. I am so thankful for the insurance I carried at the time that covered a great deal of the treatments, drugs, etc. There are so many couples that do not have the options we did, yet want A child (just one) so desperately.

Skip ahead two years…this kid has personality…MAJOR personality. He is a two year old going on five. He is full of bravado. He is loud. He is loving and perfectly snuggly. He is a menace. He fears nothing. He has incredible control over his body. He loves animals. He is totally independent. He is sneaky. He is brutally honest…wouldn’t even consider not telling the truth. A typical question I might ask, “Gage, did you hit your sister?” A typical boisterous and joyous response, “I DID IT!”

There is not a day that goes by that he doesn’t make me laugh. Did I mention he has the most incredible hair…thick and wavy!

He is a total ‘daddy’s boy.’ I predicted he would have the toughest time with Tim gone. He asks where his daddy is multiple times a day. To add to my ‘Good Things’ list though…Tim’s deployment has enhanced the bonds I have with each child, especially Gage. He is my little buddy…but I suspect only until Tim returns.

Thanks go to…Amie Cramer for a delicious dinner. The Cramer and Chelovitz families for transporting Briggs to/from Cub Scout Camp. Grandpa Bill for chaperoning Cub Scout Camp on Monday. Grandpa David for taking Briggs to see Sharks at the iMax. Nate and Helena for watching the kids while I went to book club. Barb Gable for watching the girls while I took Gage to the Children’s Museum.

  2. Ever since The Warthog, aka Loren Dale Minnix, sent me a link to this site, I’ve got to admit that I look at it and think of you guys every day. There is definitely something heroic about what your family - Tim, you, the kids and all the people lending you a hand - are doing.

I finally decided to comment because Gage sounds much like my 2-year old, Ben. If I have to buy another box of Spiderman bandaids, I think I’ll go broke. I wish I was closer and could lend a hand and Ben and Gage could “mess things up”.

I’ve got to admit, I’m not the least bit surprised at the sacrifice Tim is making, as well as yours while holding down the fort in his absence. Anyone that knows the two of you knows Tim is a great soldier, father and eader & you are completely capable and dedicated enough to hold down the fort while he’s gone.

As I go back what I have just written, I still don’t feel like I’ve done the two of you justice. I’ll keep thinking about you and check this site daily. I’m all the way out in Denver, but if there’s ever any way I can help, just let me know…

  4. My little wild man!

Before I left, we were at a going-away-party and my Dad was watching Gage give Tiffany a “run for her money.” He said, “you know what that is?” She said, “what?” He said, “PAY BACK.”

As with all the unique personalities in our family, Gage is one-of-a-kind!

    I love you Gage,
    Dad

  5. He may be a wild man, but he is a tender hearted lovebug. He is always commenting on his Daddy and knows he is at the Army, but in his young mind he still doesn’t quite understand. He gravitates toward any man who walks in the door usually with a sword or light saber in his hand. I love that little guy!!!
